Cigar Reviews

Cuvee 151 Robusto by avantgrade

The cigar sparked up with ease and immediately started its razor-sharp burn. The palate is immediately greeted with plumes of woody smoke, with a nice, sweet cedar aftertaste. The inherent maduro creaminess is carrying the woody flavors very nicely, with smoke to boot....

Hoyo De Monterrey 1066 Excalibur Dark Knight by avantgrade

Upon the first draw, I find it to be smooth and unrestricted. The cigar began to burn absolutely flawlessly from the beginning, and continued down to the very nub. The smoke is cool and carries flavors of dark cocoa, cedar (which might be coming from the cedar wrapper from the aluminum tubo container), and leather. Honestly, if this continues throughout the entire cigar, I will be extremely happy with the purchase. The body is spot on medium, but as pepper sparks up, I realize that more is o...

Oliva Special G Perfecto by TorpedoBomber

I've been gravitating towards smaller cigars lately. I want the taste but not all the nicotine. Plus I find a 20 minute smoke more enjoyable than a 2 hour one. On to the review: This little perfecto has a nice pre-light taste with a little sweetness. The light is very uneventful, as most perfecto's are. Just a little flame and you're off. The draw was perfect right off the bat, as would be expected from a cigar shorter than my pinky finger. Good volume of smoke, good rich flavor....

PIO Resurrection Churchill by avantgrade

The cigar lit up with ease, taking only one match to get the job done. There is an immediate mixture of herbal and floral aromas. I had to do a double take to make sure that I am smoking a traditional cigar, and not an Acid. Granted, that may be a slight overstatement, but the amount of these pleasant scents is far greater than in any non-infused cigar that I have smoked before. The cigar starts off on a very even burn line, producing dense clouds of white and bluish smoke. The smoke feels ...

Alec Bradley Medalist Cuban Belicoso by avantgrade

The cigar took 3 matches to light, which is on the higher end of what I'll go through to get a fresh stick started. The aroma is absolutely gorgeous, a combination of dark roasted coffee. There is a lot of promise for complexity from the first few puffs. As with the aroma, the smoke brings out tastes of dark coffee and bitter chocolate, but there are some nuances of brown sugar sweetness and hazelnut. So far, this is very interesting prelude to a smoke. ...

La Aurora Barrel Aged Robusto by avantgrade

The cigar lit up with only one match, and since I tend to use matches over lighters, this is pretty good, as some sticks can take 2 or 3. Upon lighting, the aroma is fairly light and toasty, with hints of oak. Upon taking a few puffs, there are a few blips of white pepper that pop up, but not with every puff. I can really sense the oak coming through, which must be due to the barrel aging process that Aurora performs with these cigars. Apparently they age the all of the component leaves insi...

Padilla Series 68 Golden Bear by TorpedoBomber

This is a big cigar, a full 60 ring gauge, so the light took a little more effort. The cigar also feels really light. It burned unevenly right off the bat....

La Flor Dominicana L-300 Ligero by TorpedoBomber

I almost didn't want to light this beautiful cigar. It smells so good. The perfect balance of sweetness with depth. Almost. The cigar lights very easily, but I took my time getting an even burn with the flame a little bit further away. The ash was immediately white and firm, burning in a perfect circumference around the cigar body....

Oliva Cain Torpedo Maduro by goathahalol (Featured review)

A little Dry tasting with some sweetness and immediate pepper on the tongue but not so much on the throat....

Cubao No.4 Robusto by TorpedoBomber

A friend mentioned this cigar to me. After yawning, I thought; 'oh joy--another cigar with the word "Cuba" in it'. I expected a giant ring gauge stick with a huge, blinged-out double band. To my pleasant surprise the Cubao No.4 was neither. But it was an excellent smoke. The short, stumpy No.4 arrived in a nicely patina'ed sampler box which includes 6 other sticks, all different types. This cigar has a nice triple cap, a slick, evenly veined Oscuro wrapper and a perfectly simple and classic ba...

G.A.R. Robusto Grande by goathahalol (Featured review)

This cigar has a nice hand feel and weight, with a very nice prelight draw, almost perfectly suited to my liking. Toast and Cedar predominantly power the first half inch or so, with a creamy buttery finish through the sinus. The nicely packed foot lit well and continued a nice straight burn with a medium sized burn line....

Indian Tabac Co. Super Fuerte Robusto Maduro by rabman50

The initial draw had a very light creamy taste which was unexpected from such a dark maduro. There was a hint of chocolate as well. Very satisfying....

Partagas Series S Preferido by TorpedoBomber

This is not a real torpedo as advertised. I call it a "Conicolito" (little cone) , because that's what it looks like. The cigar is straight-gauge all the way to the last 3/4", then goes to a point at nearly a 45 degree angle. It looks awkward. So I chop it, and begin to light it. Oh no, not another tight stick. Sure enough, it was nearly plugged. I light it, and it's only average....

A. J. Fernandez Diesel Torpedo by goathahalol (Featured review)

Spicy mocha flavors punctuate the initial lite and first few draws. Aroma on initial lite was fairly average for a dark maduro smoke like this....

Oliva Serie V Lancero by goathahalol (Featured review)

Initial light gave a slightly sweet and creamy flavor with just the tiniest hint of pepper in the back of the throat. Each subsequent draw the sweetness is fading and being replace by a more prominent tobbaco / pepper spice. Being a Lancero, this cigar was very easy to light, and the draw has just the right amount of resistance for me. Aroma is pleasant....

Padron 1964 Anniversary Principe Maduro by goathahalol (Featured review)

Strong Pepper, hints of wood and leather. Cap was poorly placed and a little small but didn't cause any problems with unraveling after being snipped. Draw was medium to a little tight. I usually punch these thin ring gauges but my punch is being repaired, but I suspect the draw will open up and be fine....

Punch Uppercut Robusto by JohnBCigar (Featured review)

The initial light of the new Punch Uppercut Robusto was rather uneventful. ...

El Rey Del Mundo Robusto by TorpedoBomber

The cigar always lights easily and evenly. I\'ve yet to see any flare-ups or dead spots. However, the Suprema size often arrives too tightly packed, making for a difficult draw. The black Oscuro wrapper gives the impression that it\'s going to be a full bodied stick that will club you over the head, but that\'s more appearance than reality....
