Initial Light

I have been quite excited to try this budget release from Pete and Pepin, and my expectations were met spot on.

With a half of a minute of toasting, I took a few warmer puffs and the cigar blazed to life. I must say, the burn line on this thing was razor sharp all the way to the nub, a pleasant attribute of any cigar (I personally don't enjoy touch-ups, and I'd really like to know who does).

I started to pick up on some fainter notes of leather and cedar, but the cedar soon subsided and made way for oak.

First 1/3:

From the get go, I can tell that this is a very directed smoke in terms of its flavor profile. Leather is at the core of all flavors, with a prominent nuance of black pepper, as well as a little bit of oak.

The burn is still holding true, leaving behind an almost silver colored ash. The ash held fairly well, at least for 1.5 to 2 inches at a time.

The flavor profile rests itself into the medium-bodied realm, with very little headiness induced by the smoke.

Second 1/3:

Each finish is fairly clean, but did seem to get a little musty towards the middle of the cigar. Soon, though, that faded out, and didn't leave much of a negative impression on my palate.

The flavor profile has not evolved much, with oak and leather intensifying a bit more.

Final 1/3:

Pepper notes begin to spark up a little bit more intensely now; yet, the finish remains very smooth and consistent.

I am honestly impressed by the quality of a potentially sub five dollar smoke. A burn like this is seldom seen on top of the line sticks, let alone a budget buy. As the cigar extinguished itself at the bottom of the ashtray, the flavor profile held strong with leather and oak with peppery bursts in between a few puffs.
